Eritrean President Issaias Afeworki will visit Ethiopia on Saturday as part of the historic rapprochement between the two former enemies of the Horn of Africa, the Eritrean government announced on Friday.

"President Issaias Afeworki will lead a delegation on an official visit to Ethiopia tomorrow 14 July, "tweeted Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel.

" This visit aims at cementing / reinforcing the peace and cooperation approach undertaken by the two leaders ", a- he added.

Eritrean President and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed ended two decades of war between their countries on Monday by signing a "joint declaration of peace and cooperation", on occasion of a visit to Asmara of Mr. Ahmed.

Telephone calls have been restored between the two countries as of Sunday and air links are expected to resume Wednesday.

Formerly an Ethiopian seaboard with the ports of Massawa and Assab, Eritrea declared independence in 1993 after driving Ethiopian troops out of its territory in 1991 after three decades of war. [19659008] [ad_2]
