Free roaming in West Africa

Since March 2017, Togo and some West African countries, including Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea Conakry, Mali and Burkina Faso have engaged in free roaming. You should know that this service means free receipt of calls from the signatory states to the country visited on a basis of a fixed-ceiling of 300 minutes every 30 days. It allows subscribers to benefit from local pricing of calls made from the country visited to other signatory countries. They receive free calls and pay their calls at locally applied rates.

Clearly, a Togolese traveling to Mali should normally continue to use his sim card and be billed at the same cost as that of his Togo telephone operator. For the moment, the "Internet connection" component is not yet included. Many Internet users would be interested in this solution.

On the occasion of the 2nd Evaluation Meeting held in Lomé, the regulators and operators discussed "the difficulties encountered at the technical, legal and commercial levels, and will propose appropriate solutions for the effectiveness of this initiative, to which the Heads of State and Government give a great price because it responds, in a pragmatic way, to various concerns regarding policies of integration and digital inclusion of our peoples " said Minister of Posts and Digital Economy Cina Lawson.

This meeting, organized by the Regulatory Authority of the Posts and Telecommunications Sectors (ART & P), in collaboration with the Ministry of Posts and the Digital Economy aimed to take stock of the implementation of the Protocol of Abidjan on free roaming signed in Côte d'Ivoire on November 28, 2016 by seven West African countries, which came into force on March 31, 2017.
