The young Cameroonian Flavien Kouatcha, promoter of the start-up "Save Our Agriculture", specialized in aquaponics (form of aquaculture which associates the culture of plants to the breeding of fish), received on November 23, 2018 in Paris , the favorite prize of the 2nd edition of the EDF Pulse Africa Awards.

"Save Our Agriculture" designs and manufactures individual kits and aquaponic units for individuals and professionals wanting to produce their food at home. It is a principle that combines a fish farm and a plant culture pond, thus contributing to making natural fish excrement a biological fertilizer for plants.

This competition organized by Electricité de France (EDF), which has registered four times more participants this year, compared to the first edition, aims to reveal and support African innovators engaged in energy development of the continent, we learn.

Indeed, on November 23, Marianne Laigneau, Group Executive Director in charge of the International Division, rewarded the three winners of the second edition of the EDF Pulse Africa Awards. These three start-ups, promising projects for the future, will participate actively in the continent's energy development.

The EDF group has rewarded three start-ups among the 436 companies that are candidates for the second edition of the EDF Pulse Africa Awards. The awards were presented by Marianne Laigneau, Group Executive Director in charge of International Management, in the presence of the members of the Grand Jury. The three winners selected by the Grand Jury won prizes ranging from € 5,000 to € 15,000, as well as support facilitating access to EDF's innovation ecosystem and French or international financial institutions.

1st prize: Savanna Circuit Tech Ltd., project led by Kenyan entrepreneur Emmastella Wangui.

2nd prize: Black Star Energy Ltd., project led by entrepreneur Nicole Pointdexter

3rd prize: Two Exaequo, Water Access Rwanda and Solarcreed Nigeria, projects sponsored by entrepreneurs Christelle Kwizera and Saheed

The jury decided to award a special prize "Coup de coeur Occitanie" to Flavien Kouatcha for his Save Our Agriculture project. "Save Our Agriculture" won its 2nd prize in two months, since this start-up received, in September 2018, the 1st Pierre Castel 2018 Prize, awarded by the Pierre Castel-Agir Endowment Fund for Africa, for support and financially support projects led by young African entrepreneurs in the fields of agriculture, agri-food, agritech and agro-resources.
