In its drive to develop the country's highway network, the Senegalese government, with the support of donors, plans to launch the Mbour-Kaolack highway and the Dakar-Saint-Louis coastal highway, in the first quarter of 2019. A meeting was held yesterday in Thiès to raise the awareness of the populations of affected municipalities to quickly free the right of way.

Infrastructure occupies a good place in the priority program of the Senegal Emerging Plan (PSE). After the highway Dakar-Blaise Diagne Airport (Aibd) -Sindia, the government intends to launch the Mbour-Fatick-Kaolack highway project, but also the construction of the Dakar-Saint-Louis coastal highway. These two projects will start, according to the regional director of Ageroute de Thiès, Khoult Ndiaye, no later than the first quarter of 2019. A meeting of the Regional Development Committee (Crd) was chaired yesterday by the governor of the region to present the project and raise awareness of affected areas to take the necessary steps to free the rights of way as soon as possible. The Mbour-Kaolack motorway, which will be 100 kilometers long with two times two extensible tracks, will not only allow, according to Souleymane Diouf, a project manager at Ageroute, to strengthen the road and highway network of Senegal, but also to develop the Dakar-Bamako corridor and Dakar-Lagos. As for the coastal Dakar-Saint-Louis, it will be 195 kilometers long, with twice two lanes. It will work with a closed toll system. "Mbour-Kaolack is the largest corridor in Senegal. Our neighbors in Mali use this axis for the transport of goods from the port of Dakar and others. In addition, it will improve traffic and allow more security in this highly accidental axis. For the coastal, it allows us to connect the North of the capital but also Morocco. It will also help improve road safety, "said Khoult Ndiaye. According to him, the feasibility study of the Mbour-Kaolack project is very advanced. "After the liberation of the rights of way, we can even speak of a technical study of execution. For the coast, it is less advanced but with this highway, the donors met and all agreed in principle for funding, "he said.

The governor of the region Thiès, Amadou Sy, argues that through this regional development committee, held at the request of the Minister of Infrastructure, they seek to work quickly on the construction of the Mbour-Fatick-Kaolack motorway but also on the coastal Dakar-Saint-Laurent. Louis. "One of the major difficulties in carrying out this type of work is the release of rights of way. It takes a lot of time and unnecessarily lengthens deadlines, whereas if we applied the regulations in force, we would go much faster. But the head of state has asked us to involve people in everything that is done, "he said. According to him, the delays in the execution of the works make the infrastructures much more expensive. On top of that, the construction sites, as long as they are not finished, create inconveniences to the populations
