Liberal International meeting today: Rewmi and Pds boycott

The Rewmi will not take part in the congress of the Liberal International planned in Dakar today and tomorrow. For the brothers of Idrissa Seck, this decision is explained by the fact that the regime in place "violates human rights and seized the event to make it a business of his party".

Like the Senegalese Democratic Party (Pds), Rewmi has decided to boycott the Congress of Liberal International to be held today and tomorrow in Dakar. At a press conference yesterday, Idrissa Seck's friends explained the reasons that led them to make such a decision. "For us, any liberal regime must respect the founding principles of liberalism, including freedom, human rights, the rule of law, and so on. rather than put them in danger as is the case in Senegal with the regime in place, "said Yancoba Seydi, in charge of the party's external relations. According to him, "the forced exile of Karim Wade, the recasting of the electoral register, the refusal to share the file, the retention of voters' cards, the indiscriminate repression of all demonstrations, etc." are, among others, human rights violations that are the basis of this decision.
Despite their refusal to participate in these meetings, the Rewmists still maintain their status as Liberals and claim that they are still part of this world federation of liberal political parties. Moreover, they participated in all the preparatory meetings of this congress. It was on October 18, 2018, by a letter sent to London, that they decided not to take part in this congress.
