Dakar, July 30 (APS) – The US Space Agency has deployed some thirty astronomers to Senegal to study and collect data on a small asteroid known as the object of the belt of Kuiper, Senegalese Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation Mary Teuw Niane announced in Dakar on Monday.

NASA has also deployed some 20 mobile telescopes as part of this mission. research and study called News horizon, said Niane during a press conference in which members of the American mission also participated.

According to him, the asteroid in question, also known as Ultima Thule or MU69 is visible only by telescope and is located beyond the planet pluton, in the solar system.

NASA scientists come mostly to Senegal to take readings on this object through a '' occultation phenomenon '' to take place on the night of Wednesday, August 3 to Thursday, August 4, explained Mary Teuw Niane.

The regions of Diourbel (center), Thies (west), St. Louis and Louga (North) are the four areas where telescopes will be deployed for good image quality, he said.

He added, "This mission will help scientists learn more about peripheral areas of the solar system and is an example of partnership and scientific cooperation between the United States and Senegal. '

' 'The interactions that will follow between American scientists, French and Senegalese will give rise to other scientific partnerships, especially for Senegalese students who will find an inspiration source to turn their gaze to the stars and study our solar system ', he argued.
