In his keynote address, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth pointed out that recent advances in robotics, programming and machine learning suggest that the adoption of artificial intelligence would bring significant gains, as would the Steam propelled an industrial revolution or the Internet revolutionized service and industry.

The government, the Prime Minister said, has identified a number of growth drivers for Mauritius, namely good governance, investment in human capital, economic integration and innovation. As such, he said, "we want to maximize the use of emerging technologies in our journey to better Mauritius." He said he believes that the future of industries and businesses will depend greatly on the future. use of new technologies such as AI, Blockchain, FinTech, IoT and Big Data ".

Yogida Sawmynaden, Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, underlined Mauritius' intention to set up an artificial intelligence council, a 2018-2019 budget measure announced by the Prime Minister. After the fair and the Blockchain World Summit, Mauritius should be in a better position to chart a course of action to successfully implement this measure and develop legal frameworks for the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Council, he added.

This three-day event is organized by the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation, in collaboration with EDB and Trescon Global and brings together nearly 500 participants.

The Mauritius WAIS is part of a global series after Amsterdam, Mumbai, Nairobi, Dubai and Singapore. Its goal is to connect leading AI experts, companies, government representatives, data experts, technology leaders, start-ups, investors, researchers, academics and global innovators in the field of information technology. artificial intelligence, all under one roof.
