[FR:FR0000133308:0] Orange [:FR] would work hard in financial services. The telecom operator would have joined forces with the Ivorian group NSIA to start its banking operations in West Africa through the creation of a joint venture. Bloomberg, quoting three people close to the case, said the new entity will use the assets in Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal that NSIA acquired from Nigerian Diamond Bank last November. This partnership is expected to spread over time in neighboring countries where Orange already operates, as in Mali.

Orange will hold 75% of the joint venture, NSIA with the remaining participation, the agency said. It will offer retail banking, microcredit and insurance services. The two partners should seek the green light from the Central Bank of West African States by the end of the month

The operator launched at the end of last year Orange Bank in France and aims at this year 400 million euros in turnover.
