Political cadres of the department of Matam: what a waste, what a lack of vision! (By Amadou Tidiane FALL) – The Senegalese Life

And our illusion merchants adorn themselves with their best clothes; their cars and drivers lined up on one side, their "big arms" on the other. They think they are messiahs who must bring to our parents in the Northeast the "good news". They are heavily mistaken about priorities. Unfortunately, they do not know it. To see them closely, they really do in self-deception voluntarily. And the few enlightened minds among them make, as in the saying, "against bad fortune, good heart." Amadou Tidiane Fall, Contribution

I was flabbergasted, like most other executives and other young people of the department to hear and subsequently to find that politicians (some still refused to be involved in this great farce) went to Matam to tour the ten communes on the grounds of raising awareness on sponsorship and prepare the elections of 2019 on behalf of the presidential movement and, remember, with a budget of 51 million. It's just pathetic. This shows a total lack of respect and consideration for the people, in a country that lacks almost everything, where in some parts, some circles are on the verge of starvation. Would we be cursed so much? Or do we simply have the "leaders" we deserve?
Even better, the tragedy-political comedy in Matam's department lies in the fact that they are almost all on the same side. Sada Ndiaye and Seydou Demba KEBE who had done a little in the simulacrum of resistance could not take a long time to face the call of the sirens, that I say, the call of the flashing lights. This deserves a little thought, and maybe you could help me pinpoint some details.

In Matam, and for ages, they are rare those who hold strong convictions, to stay in a political party against all odds. We have the impression that they would suffocate outside the party in power. These are easily verifiable facts by simply empirical means. How many were under WADE? How many are now? And how much will tomorrow be in the APR after President Macky SALL? Even the student in the preparatory course for the elementary school of Thiéhel Sébbé can answer these questions.

This tasteless joke began at the Matam Cultural Center, under the leadership of "coordinator", coach and captain Farba NGOM (when he says his blue boubou is yellow, they will shout with him, in chorus: of course he is yellow, Ngom!). The horde of officials listened to the instructions and nodded. It was for them to organize a tour of 72 hours in the ten municipalities that account the department (Matam, Ourossogui, Thilogne, Nguidjilogne, Ogo, Nabadji, Bokidiawe, Dabia, Agnams and Orfondé). The officials competed fiercely, each trying to mobilize to the maximum to make a good impression during the passage of the caravan.

If the same energy was mobilized to alleviate the suffering of the populations, we would be happy. Fifty-one million could be enough to build a health center or several health posts. With this money, Kawel Dialoubé could see the end of the tunnel in his dream of finally having electricity. With this money, some families could be helped and rescued. But, no, our friends have other priorities, they preferred bamboula and folklore.
The diéri is facing many problems. Insufficient boreholes are struggling to feed some villages that only benefit from faulty connections. And you are not unaware yet that some villages contribute to pay themselves their health staff. You also want us to talk about the Dandé Mayo?
Apparently ridicule no longer kills. In "Treasures of Thoughts" (1852), Antoine Claude Gabriel Jobert writes: "Ridicule is the only thing feared by those who no longer fear shame". Fear ridicule, dear elders, since you have crossed the line of shame!
Well-informed readers already know that this is not the first time we denounce these kinds of practices. We had, at the time and face uncovered (while many were hiding behind pseudonyms) denounced the anti-republican behavior of MP Farba NGOM. And this same parliamentarian and mayor has just added insult to pain.

Here are the facts:
A few days ago, Lieutenant General Meissa NIANG (High Commander of the Gendarmerie and Director of Military Justice) inaugurated three brigades of gendarmerie in the Matam region: Kanel, Ndendory and Agnam (Matam department). This is excellent news as it is part of securing people and property. We take the opportunity to wish the General a well-deserved retirement.
However the installation of the brigade in Agnam poses a problem of territorial coherence. It hurts the conscience of the purists and all those who hold to the administrative and territorial history.
Historically, and well before the reforms of these last years, the three localities of the current department of Matam which had status of communes are: Matam (1952), Ourossogui (1990) and Thilogne (1996). These were the most populated and important localities either in terms of their centrality or in terms of trade. When it was necessary to create a new CEM in the area, in addition to that of Matam city, we chose Thilogne, it was already in the late 80s. And it was not by chance if Thilogne was the leader -Burger district before the 1996 reforms. So you understand easily that coherence and logic, the brigade should be in Thilogne. And yet the first assigned gendarmes were already there. Why then this change? Farba NGOM must stop manipulating the authorities of this country by small schemes. And meanwhile, the current Mayor Sidy Kawory DIA does not scream loud enough, meanwhile the former Mayor and former Senator Abdoul GUISSE remains silent. Would you all become valets of the Mayor of Agnams who continues to rain and good weather by trampling completely on the Republican elegance? In Thilogne, and to my knowledge, there is only Mamadou Elimane KANE who is in the resistance.
I will not mention this minister whom the deputy sends to represent him in ceremonies and who acts under his dictation.
It is time to put an end to this lack of respect and consideration, to this low level of representation by intelligent resistance.
I appeal to all young people in the department, to all those who know how to say "NO, STOP! To all those who are imbued with republican values and who value their terroir as the apple of their eyes to join us, to join those who fear shame and ridicule to establish this front of refusal. I appeal to the sense of duty of each of you and of each of you for a change of mentality, beyond political and partisan divisions. Assume yourself, get ready because tomorrow is a new day. It is time to get rid of these practices of another century and help your parents, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews to become aware of the issues. Help these thousands of citizens to refuse manipulation. Support these thousands of people to invent new methods, to open their eyes to guarantee a better future, under new paradigms!
