Saint-Louis: Producers announce loss of 7,000 tons of onion

XALIMANEWS: The president of the producers of the Dagana onion industry, Mamadou Diop, appealed to the state to save the rest of their production, of which "7000 tons of onion rotted" during the rains of June 27.

"If the state does not come to our aid, the rest of our production will rot at the next rainfall," he warned.

reported that the producers of Dagana Department had "planted" for this season 2,200 hectares, taking loans from the National Agricultural Credit Fund of Senegal (CNCAS).

Noting that producers do not have storage warehouses, he also explained that the onion "can not be covered by tarpaulins."

"We are about to start the winter season for rice growing and we are worried about our debt repayments to the CNCAS. If we can not save the rest of our production estimated at nearly 8000 tons of onions, it will be the disaster, "adds the president of the producers.
