The oil company Shell will now operate in Mauritania, since the oil giant Anglo-Dutch signed, on Monday, July 23, two contracts exploration-production contract (CEP) with the Mauritanian government.

According to Mohamed Abdel Vetah, Mauritanian Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mining, the signing of these contracts that relate to the offshore Mauritanian coastal basin of the Atlantic Ocean, is part of a strategic partnership between the two parts. Abdel Vetah said that with these contracts, Mauritania is thus linked with four of the world's largest firms in the sector: the American Exxon Mobil; the British British Petroleum; French Total; and Shell.

Thus, Mauritania " confirms again its position as a privileged destination for large investments in long-term economic projects ," said Minister Mohamed Abdel Vetah. This position of Mauritania is explained by a " legal and attractive framework in an environment marked by security and a competitive and stable business climate ," he added.

that following this signing, and after the visas of the Mauritanian authorities, Shell will open an office in Nouakchott and launch its exploration activities.

For its part, Andrew Brown, executive director of Shell, said that these two contracts sign effective entry into the West Africa Atlantic Rim Exploration Basin. Andrew Brown assured that his company will bring its expertise and know-how to help the Mauritanian authorities develop the country's energy sector.
