The 18th Nuit Blanche will be a stroll or will not be
Several parades in the city, artists on a walk, a great crossing of Paris and a velodrome on the periphery … These are the highlights of the 18th Nuit Blanche, unveiled this morning in a press conference by the artistic team of this edition 2019 .
On the night of October 5, Paris will fuse under the artistic direction of Didier Fusillier. Director and former director of Lille3000, he is supported this year by the advice of art critic to Inrockuptibles and curator, Jean-Max Colard. With the aim of better understanding the Paris metropolis and the challenges of its time, both started with a concept developed in Macbeth "Walk the forest", deploys Didier Fusillier. And this year, the forest, it is the Parisians, the artists and all the actors who will make this 2019 Nuit Blanche a host of surprises.
Even if it is expected to see dromedaries in the city or huge inflatables Annette Messager carried by horses, the greatest audacity (known to date) is perhaps the invasion of the device by a horde of cyclists. Entered by the door of Pantin on the back of bicycles with fluorescent wheels, the runners will be able to make the loop between the Porte de la Villette and the Porte des Lilas, by night; provided you have previously registered on the platforms of the City of Paris, which will open on July 1st. This "Velodrome" aims to "Do not let Paris lock itself in its periphery", illuminates Christophe Girard, deputy mayor of the Paris City Hall.
In fro and through
The stroll is at the heart of this edition. In the form of "Parade", visitors are invited, from 14h, to an outdoor exhibition between the Petit and the Grand Palais. Before their departure on the boulevards, the platforms will be presented as in a monumental exhibition. And as he dreamed, Daniel Buren, will walk from Concorde to Bastille, as a "painting of Paris" by a giant mirror system overhung lightboat-like lighting. The Cameroonian artist Pascale Marthine Tayou will surround himself with a "crazy army", ten musicians straight from his country of origin, and thus complement the Shakespearian metaphor.
Several "walking artists" will invest the urban space, always in the spirit that does not want to make any Nuit Blanche " an event only Parisian », according to the deputy. Thus, Raphaëlle de Groot will engage in a performative march and workshops in Clichy-sous-Bois, one week before the event to end on the night of October 5th.
And the highlight of the show will be sporty. The joggers will invest without queuing the city's flagship monuments, usually invaded by inexhaustible groups of visitors transported by tourism. The lucky participants will be relieved of their bags and controls at the entrance, provided they wear a bib (the precious sesame to return safely). They will be able to discover, in preview of the exhibitions and benefit from the exclusiveness of the iconic places of the culture in the city.
