A small report of the incidents enamelled this night of celebration in Paris and elsewhere in France:
– The victory of the Blues was bereaved by several fatal accidents. In Annecy, a man in his fifties killed himself by diving into a canal, in a shallow depth of water. In Saint-Félix (Oise), a man who was partying while driving, died after having built his car in a plane tree. Three children, aged 3 and 6, were also seriously injured after being struck by a motorcycle in Frouard (Meurthe-et-Moselle).
– In the capital, thirty young people entered the Drugstore Publicis Champs-Elysees, looting bottles of wine or champagne, before being dispersed by the police who then worked to protect the entrance to the store. A man was seriously injured after receiving a violent blow from a helmet during a fight near the Fields. The man was hospitalized in a serious condition, according to a police source told AFP.
– In Lyon, in the city of the Minister of the Interior, the atmosphere degenerated in the early evening around Place Bellecour where some 20,000 people had come to watch the final on a giant screen. Scuffles caused crowd movements, fumes annoying people in the audience. In Marseille, several incidents occurred, especially around the Old Port and the fan zone. In Ajaccio, some clashes erupted after the final whistle between supporters of the team of France who were celebrating the victory, and people claiming to support Croatia, reported firefighters and prefecture services to AFP. There are no casualties. In Strasbourg or Rouen, sporadic clashes between young people and police forces who exchanged projectiles and tear gas. Seven people were arrested in Rouen, the prefecture reported.
