The creator of the famous animated character "SpongeBob SquarePants", Stephen Hillenburg, is dead.
The Nickelodeon channel made the announcement on Tuesday morning.
"Today, we observe a moment of silence to honor his life and his work," the channel said on Twitter.
The first episode of the colorful character was aired in the spring of 1999. More than 250 episodes of the adventures of this sea sponge working in a snack under the ocean have since been broadcast.
