Bilal Hassani, a French singer, songwriter and videographer, born September 09, 1999 in Paris, became known for his videos and music on his YouTube channel, before representing France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, with his song King, where he finished sixteenth. It was then after Eurovision, just one month ago that Bilal Hassani won on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 the LGBT personality of the year at Out d'Or.
A reward that was awarded to him by the votes of the public, succeeding Jonas Ben Ahmed, also transgender comedian who had obtained a guest role in the series Plus belle la vie. As a result of this distinction, Bilal Hassani delivered a very moving, committed and hopeful speech that moved his audience:
"… Throughout my childhood, I liked to put sheets and towels on my head to have long hair, and I was told that I was a little weird … There are still many many things to do. Yes, I go on the radio. Yes, I'm on TV. I am used a little in all media to say: 'Look, it's good, there is a homosexual with a wig, everything is set, everything is better'. It's wrong, it's not true at all, everything is not settled, everything is not over … "
If today, Bilal Hassani feels fulfilled, he wants mentalities to change. He mentioned his psychosis: " With my mother, we were terrified just to get off the Uber, to walk to Cabaret Sauvage, because we were afraid of being attacked. "
And finally, the young videographer wanted to recall that homophobia kills every year many people in France and in the world: "People are dying. It's serious. It must change, it must move.
Golden Out made others happy
The Golden Out also congratulated other people other than Bilal Hassani during the same ceremony.
