Saint-Louis, Nov. 28 (APS) – The president of the National Audiovisual Regulatory Council (CNRA) Babacar Diagne, referring to the oil and gas discoveries of recent years in Senegal, calls for cultivating national cohesion in order to avoid '' through '' that may arise from the exploitation of these resources.

The exploitation of these resources should allow Senegal to produce some 150,000 barrels a day, which represents a significant financial impact, he said.

"Faced with this, it is necessary that all the actors" and the populations agree, show "patriotism" and cultivate the "national cohesion around the exploitation of its oil and gas resources, in order to avoid everything (…)", did he declare.

He was speaking at the opening of a regional sensitization and sharing workshop that the CNRA organized in Saint-Louis for journalists working in this northern part of Senegal.

This meeting aims essentially to equip the media on the measures taken by the audio-visual regulator towards the next elections, including the presidential elections of February 2019, "important moments for democracy".

Between 2014 and 2016, significant discoveries of oil and gas were made, especially off Senegalese waters, straddling Mauritania and Senegal, deposits whose exploitation should start by 2021-2023.
