The fight against malaria draws particular attention from public authorities determined to eradicate the disease in the very near future. This fight is materialized by the enormous efforts made by the State of Senegal. Because, as emphasized by the coordinator of the National Malaria Control Program (Pnlp), Dr. Doudou Sène, the State will inject 60 billion over three years.
In Saly, where he had come to represent the Minister Health and Social Action at the demonstration organized by the movement "Geum sama gokh" led by Nene Seydi, the coordinator of the National Program against malaria (Pnlp) pointed out that the state will inject 60 billion FCfa in the fight against the disease in the next three years. "To roll back malaria, several strategies have been pursued for decades. And I would like to remind you here that the state puts at least 20 billion CFA francs a year in the fight against malaria. In total, 60 billion CFA francs for the next three years to be able to achieve the elimination of malaria in Senegal, "said Dr. Doudou Sène.
According to him, the fight against this disease is having its effects nationwide since currently it is almost confined in certain zones, particularly Tambacounda, Kédougou, Kolda, but also in the central zone, in the region of Diourbel and that of Kaolack. He added that in certain regions, "a few cases are identified, particularly in the region of Thiès which, globally, is in the green zone. And when we talk about "green zone", it is localities where we have less than five cases per thousand inhabitants. The same situation prevails in the regions of Matam, Saint-Louis and Louga ". Dr Sène informed that Senegal has had an overall decline in parasite prevalence rate of 0.3% for the entire national territory. "So, we can hope, by 2030, which is the deadline, that the elimination of malaria in Senegal can be achieved."
For this, he invited to maintain the achievements by adopting responsible behaviors , especially the use of impregnated mosquito nets. "The only message we want to launch is the use of the impregnated mosquito net. This is the most absolute weapon to protect against malaria, "said Sène. "The other aspect of the fight is the approach to wintering. For any case of fever that occurs, we must make sure to access the health facilities as quickly as possible to treat them. This is what will prevent the spread of the disease and deaths, "he said. The Pnlp coordinator took advantage of his stay in Saly to hand over a batch of 500 mosquito nets to the "Geum sama gokh" association. These are to be distributed to local residents. But, he added, mosquito nets will be available in sufficient quantities at the health district level and throughout the national territory, especially for pregnant women and children aged 0-5 years.
