Thiès, July 27 (APS) – The 4th edition of the medical days of the city of Thiès (JMT), organized by the town hall of the city of rail, started Friday for two days, with the aim of consulting for free and to give medicines to 4,000 people, the APS found.


Seventy practitioners, including 24 doctors of 14 specialties, are mobilized for this action of a humanitarian and social nature, indicated to the APS, the president of the Ameth Mbaye Organizing Committee, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony chaired by Mayor Talla Sylla.

From general medicine, to ophthalmology, ENT, cardiology, diabetology, dental surgery, dermatology and pediatrics, various services are offered to the population.

"This year's edition, under the theme + Chronic Kidney Disease and High Blood Pressure +, is a testament to our determination to participate sustainably and actively in strengthening our city's health system," he said. the mayor

It will consist of free consultations in 14 specialties, donations of blood, screening for diseases, including HIV AIDS.

Consultations and care in nephrology, awareness sessions, a conference are also planned during these two days.

Mobile units will travel through neighborhoods for benefits for the elderly and people with reduced mobility, the mayor said. So many actions that, he said, contribute to the improvement of the well-being of the populations of Thies, "especially the most deprived".

The objective of these medical days is "to diagnose the recurrent illnesses that affect the residents of Thiès, to sensitize the populations and to lead them to adopt a change of behavior, to facilitate to the patients the access to the competences of the doctors ", said the city's capital of rail.

"This year, the focus is on chronic kidney disease to annihilate risk factors, and allow people to adopt behaviors to avoid these pathologies," he continued.

He announced his availability as mayor and member of the board of directors of the regional hospital, to accompany, with the appropriate health structures, the care of patients in whom diseases were detected.

Supported by the Ministry of Health and Social Action and partners such as the regional hospital Amadou Sakhir Ndiéguène and other private hospitals in the city, the Thiès section of the Association des Doctors from Ziguinchor, this operation which is held in front of the town hall of Thiès, has drained many patients of all ages, in this first day.

Under tents, doctors examine and prescribe prescriptions. Patients who are prescribed a prescription can go to a pharmacy not far away for free drugs.

"Last year 2,600 people were consulted, and this year we are aiming for at least 4,000 people," said Ameth Mbaye. He noted that this edition has a budget of "about 10 million" CFA francs.
