Togo hosts 2nd West Africa Free Roaming Assessment Meeting

The Minister of Posts and the Digital Economy, Cina Lawson, opened the proceedings of this high-level meeting, which brings together 24 states of Africa, with the objective of reviewing the implementation of the Abidjan Protocol on Free Roaming is signed on November 26, 2016 by 07 West African countries that are Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte dIvoire, Cape Verde and Togo.

It will also be a question for participants to take stock of the state of implementation of Free Roaming in their respective countries and to discuss the technical, legal and commercial difficulties encountered in order to propose appropriate solutions for the effectiveness of the initiative.

For Cina Lawson, the implementation of Free Roaming has made it possible to establish a free roaming call in the space concerned and a very significant reduction in call costs which are indexed at local rates.

Free Roaming is a important axis of the political will of the Heads of State to make Africa a common digital market. It is a tool of regional integration to boost the free movement of goods and people and improve the control of the security of States.
