Vélingara, July 21 (APS) – Journalist Pape Atoumane Diop, former correspondent of the daily Le Soleil and the Senegalese Press Agency (APS) in Casamance, died in Vélingara at the age of 79, we learned from an informed source.
Pope Atoumane Diop died Thursday at the Vélingara Health Center as a result of an illness.
Born in 1939 in Kolda, Pope Atou as his intimate friends did the training in journalism in writing and correspondence with the Universal School of Paris from January 1959 to the end of December 1961.
From March 1, 1961, to February 5, 1973, he was assigned to the Regional Information Service as a center chief in Velingara, Kolda, and Sedhiou.
From 6 February 1973 to 30 June 1976, he was put at the disposal of the Senegalese Press Agency (APS) as Head of Regional Office in Casamance East.
Pope Atoumane Diop was also the correspondent of the national daily Le Soleil in the department of Vélingara between 1976 and 2016.
Known for his discretion, the man was also a typist, animator of rural educational radio (channel 4 Ziguinchor), among others.
