Indeed, it is this date that the incumbent and global telecommunications operator in Mali has chosen to move up a gear by launching its 4th Generation (4G) network. It was at the Amitié hotel under the chairmanship of the Minister of Digital Economy and Communication, Mr. Arouna Modibo Touré. The presence of Prime Minister Sidibe Zamilatou Cisse, no less the Administrator of the Society, the President of the Patronage of Mali, Mr. Mamadou Sinsy Coulibaly, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Mali, Mr. Hassan Naciri. Mr. Abdel Aziz Biddine, Managing Director of Sotelma-Malitel and Mr. Modibo Kane Keita, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company and several other personalities were present.
Indeed, the 4G is the speed in the internet connection or almost instantaneousity. It is the fourth generation of standards for mobile telephony corresponding to LTE-Advanced. Succeeding 2G and 3G +, 4G allows higher bit rates. In practice, the bit rates are of the order of 10Mbit / s to 80 Mbit / s per user, depending on the number of users and the category of LTE terminals like LTE Cat 4 for 150 Mbit / s, LTE-A Cat 6 for 300 Mbit / s, LTE-A Cat 12 for 600 Mbit / s and the number of active users present in the same radio cell. Since the bandwidth is shared between the users terminals. One of the particularities of 4G is to have an IP-based "core network" and no longer offer switched mode, that is, setting up a circuit to transmit a voice call. Which means that telephone calls use voice over IP. Also, the 4G is based on fiber optic connected equipment resulting in superior transmission quality. It also benefits from a large Internet bandwidth that the operator has continued to increase to allow a flow to meet the expectations of its customers.
Also, according to the explanations on the functionalities, given by Mr. Moustapha El Outti, marketing manager of Sotelma-Malitel, 4G is the fourth generation of standards for mobile telephony and allows to use the very high speed. He further indicated that the 4G Malitel already covers, at its launch, several localities of the country. There is also the fact that the customer will not need to replace its 3G + chip to benefit from 4G. Just have a compatible phone to this generation of mobile telephony. Earlier, Mr. Abdel Aziz Biddine, Managing Director of Sotelma-Malitel, said that, stemming from a comprehensive strategy of development policy, this launch marks in gold the history of the Malitel Society and of Mali as a whole. For him, this product is the result of the work of all agents and collaborators of Sotelma-Malitel. The first manager of Malitel will say that 4G offers the best quality services at the best prices in Bamako and many other places to launch. This is less than a month after obtaining the 4G license. As for the Minister of Digital Economy and Communication, after congratulating Malitel officials, he pointed out that since 1999, the government of Mali has undertaken huge reforms to make the telecommunications sector more profitable, more equitable and more attractive. For him, the government wanted to insert the dimension of quality in the specifications for 4G. "It is according to the principle of non-discrimination between different operators that my department wanted everyone to have 4G for competitiveness and for profitability," he said. According to him, the granting of this 4G, will significantly influence the telecommunications sector to achieve the objectives of profitability, quality and reliability. "4G reassures us more. It's only a standard, a technology and I'm sure that in a few weeks, consumers will suffer less. That with affordable costs and quality services, "he says.
Minister Arouna Modibo Touré took the opportunity to make a few remarks. These include the high cost of the phone and the quality of service. He invited the telephone operators to the effort to improve the quality of the service and lower the prices of the products. In addition, he announced the government's willingness to reduce the cost of telephone communication in 2019.
In short, it should be remembered that Sotelma-Malitel is also 687 thousand jobs created, 650 SMI-subsidized SMEs, 800 rural localities covered, or 80% territorial coverage. It is also 291 billion CFA francs paid annually in taxes, 300 billion investments in the network to improve the quality of service and over a billion invested in the social.
