YouTube is the perfect platform to watch all kinds of clips. The record companies realized that they could not ignore it and Universal decided to partner with the video giant to publish remastered clips.
YouTube is full of music videos, initially shared by average users. The record companies then directly opened their channels or those of their artists. This is notably the case of one of the majors, UMG, Universal Music Group.
Known at the moment to be the rightful signaling a lot of videos on the platform, they have partnered with YouTube to share remastered clips.
1,000 new clips by 2020
The goal is clear: to give a second youth to this kind of videos which, if they are a few years old, may lack an HD version and not offer the optimal experience to listen to the song and say to themselves "Wow, I'm old, actually".
In a post on YouTube's blog, relayed by Neowin, Stephen Bryan, director of music label relations for YouTube explains:
It is an honor to work with UMG and to be able to change the way fans around the world will watch some of the most legendary videos. The quality is exceptional. It's our goal that current video clips – true works of art – take advantage of the quality standards that the artists' work deserves and that fans expect.
Some artists who will see their improved clips are, among others, Billy Idol, Beastie Boys, Boyz II Men, George Strait, Janet Jackson, Kiss, Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga, Lionel Richie, Maroon 5, Meat Loaf, No Doubt / Gwen Stefani , Smokey Robinson, The Killers, and Tom Petty.
To know if the clip has been reworked, just go into the description and there should be the words "Remastered in HD".
