Ziguinchor, Oct. 29 (APS) – Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy Oumar Guèye laid the foundation stone for Boudody fishing port, a district of Ziguinchor (south) on Thursday, a ceremony marking the official start of the works. this infrastructure co-financed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the State of Senegal for 2.3 billion CFA francs.
"The construction of this port is one of the components of the ORIO project for the development of the port of Ziguinchor, whose first activity was the dredging and development of the Casamance River which allowed the channel to deepen to a depth of 7 meters. meters against 3.2 ", said Oumar Guèye.
"The amount of the project is estimated at 2,319 billion CFA francs.The duration of construction will be 12 months", he added during this official ceremony, in the presence of administrative and local authorities, the ambassador from the Netherlands to Senegal Theo Peters, MPs from the region, elected officials and several stakeholders in the fisheries sector.
The construction work of the project is entrusted to Eiffage Senegal following an international call for tenders, according to the Minister of Fisheries and the Maritime Economy.
The Boudody fishing port in Ziguinchor will consist of a 90-meter long sheet pile, a 900-square-meter hangar equipped with conditioning rooms, a 100-tonne positive cold room, an auction hall and offices and cloakrooms.
It is also planned on this site the development of a paved platform with parking for large carriers and the construction of a sentry box, outdoor toilet and a fence.
According to Theo Peters, the Netherlands plans to bring to Senegal their experience in the construction of port infrastructure.
"With Rotterdam, we have the largest port in Europe, the tenth port in the world, and we will bring our experience to strengthen the logistics base for port infrastructure," said the diplomat.
In addition to the dredging of the Casamance River already carried out, the ORIO project, financed by 4.5 million euros by the State of Senegal and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, provides for the construction of the fishing port of Boudody. extension of the commercial port of Ziguinchor, the construction of a hydrocarbon terminal and other social projects.
