Carlson, who is effectively the face of Fox and hosts the high-profile show on the Right-Wing Channel, ridiculed President Joe Biden on Tuesday for saying that the US military created uniforms suitable for women, created suits of maternity flight for those who are pregnant; and updated requirements for hairstyles.
“So we have some new maternity flight hairstyles and jumpsuits,” Carlson hissed. “Pregnant women are going to wage our wars. This is a mockery of the US military.”
Carlson’s comments sparked serious backlash from some of the top ranking members of the US military who took to Twitter Wednesday and Thursday to call out Carlson for what they described as damaging rhetoric and source. of division.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin shared the same “loathing” that many military leaders have expressed about Carlson’s comments.
Kirby said the military still had “a lot of work to do” to become “more inclusive, more respectful of everyone – especially women.”
“We are committed to doing better, and we will do it,” Kirby said. “What we absolutely won’t do is take the advice of a talk show host’s staff, or the Chinese military. Maybe these people feel like they have something to do. prove it. It’s on them. “
Kirby’s pointed comments came as a number of senior military officials excoriated Carlson for his rhetoric.
“They are beacons of freedom and they prove Carlson wrong with determination and dedication,” added Funk. “We are fortunate that they are serving with us.”
Lt. Gen. Theodore D. Martin shared a photo of his daughter and said that “contrary to what you might hear” she and other women “are NOT” making fun of our military. “
“You WISH your daughter was as awesome as mine!” Martin added. “So COME ON.”
A Fox spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment Thursday morning.
Programming on Fox has gotten more and more extreme in recent years and even more so after the November election, when it saw competition from smaller channels bid for its conservative audience.
The days when Fox presented itself as a “fair and balanced” news channel are long gone. Most of the channel’s programming is now filled with right-wing commentary.
Fox Corporation chief executive Lachlan Murdoch even recently conceded that he viewed the network’s role in the Biden years as “the loyal opposition” to the White House.
