Apple might have announced a whole new set of on-ear AirPods at the very end of last year, but the iconic in-ear originals haven’t seen an update since 2019. But two new leaks suggest that the AirPods Pro could be next in line for an update – with some big surprises in store.
An Apple leaker shared a photo on Twitter (below) claiming to show the inner workings of not one but two different AirPods Pro models, suggesting that the next earbuds may be available in multiple editions. Could we have more than one new entry in our list of the best wireless headphones?

Twitter user Mr. White suggests that the new AirPods Pro could be two different sizes and both will feature the same W2 chip as the current AirPods Pro.
It’s unclear why users might benefit from the new AirPods Pro which comes in two sizes – the interchangeable rubber tips can usually solve any fit issues. So it seems more likely that any size difference could be intended to accommodate additional functionality. Maybe we could see the stemless “ sport ” edition with a more traditional design with more features?
And maybe one of those features will be the ability to control AirPods Pro with your teeth (yes, you read that right). A second leak, shared by Patently Apple, reveals that Apple has filed a patent for headphones that have a “through-the-body entry” – meaning they can detect actions like touching your face and clicking your teeth. What time to be alive, eh?
Of course, as with all Apple patents, only time will tell if entry through the body will ever become a reality. As with any new technology, there will undoubtedly be a lot of startup issues to fix (sorry).
