Coming up to the news for users who are somewhat clumsy when using mobile devices. Corning introduced the latest version of its phone protection equipment – Gorilla Glass 6. Gorilla Glass 6 is designed to be more durable than its predecessor, introduced two years ago.
The biggest advantage of Gorilla Glass 6 is its ability to withstand falling heights, and what is more important for some users – endure multiple drops of the device. The degree of scratch resistance is substantially the same as in the previous version.
According to Corning, in laboratory tests, Gorilla Glass 6 has survived 15 drops on solid surfaces from a height of one meter. The new version of the glass is up to twice as good as Gorilla Glass 5.
As the premium phone line implements the wireless charging option, the back of the glass has become the common feature of the device. Because of this, many manufacturers accept Gorilla Glass on both sides of their phones, effectively covering about 85 percent of the device's surface. These devices also make it more susceptible to damage from falls. In addition, on many devices, it is possible to see the use of different generations of Gorilla Glaze from different sides to save on the cost.
Corning will immediately supply the Gorilla Glass 6 material to the manufacturers and it remains to be seen how the new technology will be accepted and how fast.
