Yes, indeed, what is our greatest sin? From whom all our sins, failings, and defects spread and multiply later. That precedes every Serbian suffering, every autumn and every failure, asked the bishop
"On one occasion, I sat with my long-time friend, a highly educated and spiritually experienced man, the bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church." As always, our whole conversation was calm and solemn. Without speaking too much, with long periods of silence, in the common sense of the difficulty of the time in which we live.
In front of the walls filled with books and icons, under a dull light of the evening, this unforgettable conversation focused on the joint attempt of our answer to a question as complicated as mysterious. We would like to ask the question of all questions: what is the biggest, this first-born Serbian sin?
Yes, indeed, what is our greatest sin? From whom all our sins, failings, and defects spread and multiply later. Which precedes each Serbian suffering, each fall and each failure.
And the conversation turned into a terrible and terrible reminder of everything that happened to us.
In front of the calm of my silent interlocutor, I slowly enumerated the terrible scenes of our fall in history. One by one.
As a confession, I roared terrible scenes of bloody handcuffs and critters. I remembered everything that hates my heart and my soul.
I remember the axes of the godfather; I remember the sword of the officer who cuts the breast of the Serbian queen; I remember the bloody knife that, in the Topčiderskaja Forest, the quagmire of the most noble ruler of our modern history is scrambled without mercy; I remember the beggar and the rich with the highest military decorations after every Serbian war; I remember the future Duke of Serbia, Zivojin Misic, who has everything he has with the creditors, even his shin (since he was expelled from the military service under the name of Obrenovicev ); I remember the greatest hero of the Thessaloniki front, the immortal Milunka Savić (the star of Karađorđe with the sword, the Obilic Medal and two orders of the French Legion of Honor ) after the First World War, worked as a housekeeper and kneeled near a coffin filled with dirty water, just to feed her family. this kingdom, whose liberation was so gloriously engaged, disguised as a man, wounded several times …
I remember Orthodox churches raised in the air by Serbian hands; shoot the icons of Christ; baptism extinguished; Cyrillic forbidden; Jasenovac taciturn …
I remember everything we try to forget otherwise, everything that follows us as a demonic shadow comfortably placed between the lines of our story …
It would have been necessary to bring all this horror suddenly horrified.
Long silence And a sigh of barely overwhelming repentance for all that the worst of our ancestors did to their brothers born, to their godfathers, friends, leaders, leaders …
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, pray for us, sinners! Pray for us, blessed!
And after the prayer, we tried to break this horrible chaos of stupid and inhuman sins of our people.
And I tried it. In commanding: the sin of obedience; izdaj; selfishness; selfishness; greed; lack of respect for all that is big and really worthy …
My wise and silent interlocutor reminded me that it's only "redeemers of something older than anything listed." That there is a shrimp of all those sad chronicles of our shame and shame. And that "this terrible sin is cleverly concealed in a form apparently completely inseparable". In something that does not seem like a sin.
He discovered, in a nutshell, the essential reason for all the reasons for our repeated suffering. He pronounced the solution:
"The greatest Serbian sin, the one from which all the evil comes after, all the horror and horror of our history and our daily life, is the impatience . "
Usually, a little everyday, there is no innocent impatience. It's our biggest, the hardest, that original sin. A puzzle of everything that we will then ruin, betray, destroy, profane, reject, forget …
As always, the most complicated questions require the simplest answers. It turned out that it is often the only one.
Because impatience is not the opposite of "patience", but of wisdom.
It is obvious that impatience lacks faith in God and in himself. Impatience is misery and malice.
The impatience is the cause of all disappointment. Impatience is a rebellion against this "let your will be done".
Impatience is the beginning of every end. The impatience is this "unreasonable rebellion" Serbian and suicidal.
Impatience is an impious resistance to all that we do not understand.
I have nothing left to agree with my wise and patient friend.
And that, here and to you, my dear ones, I transmit the memory of this last conversation.
Hoping that you will understand me. And believe in the words of a Serbian bishop inspired by the thousands of years of wisdom of orthodox civilization.
So, please, do not be impatient. As much as it hurts. As much as you seem unbearable … "
