BELGRADE – "Mary in Memory" was engraved on a fountain in the park of Banovo Brdo …

The fountain of conservation has been around for years, but neither the citizens nor the older workers of the city-owned and conservative businesses know who Mary was. In the meantime, two legends have been translated.

One of the legends circulating is about the love of a young man and a girl named Mary, and the fact that he raised the fountain right in the place where they met because he wanted to leave a trace of their relationship after them.

The second legend, much more likely, but sadder, says that parents erected the memorial in memory of their tragic starving girl who played daily at the place where the fountain was built.

And for the citizens of Banovo brdo, these fashions are mysterious because they have heard stories about it, but they can not find the right information anywhere.

– We are often parents who bring the children to this park to talk about the fountain. Nobody knows for sure who Mary is. We know that there are these two versions of the story, but both are not verified. We have never met anyone who can tell us for sure who this Maria is – said Maria M, the Lion's mother, five years old.

In "Belgrade Waterworks and Sewerage", the company responsible for all the fountains and fountains in the city area says that it does not have such information, that it has been communicated only to the administration. The missing tear, they say, will soon be restored.

Up to a decade and a half, this one, like other fountains in the parks, was under the jurisdiction of "Zelenila Beograd". The older workers of this company consider the other legend to be closer to the truth, because they say they have met a man and a woman visiting a fountain.

– The colleagues who work in Čukarica do not know how to call their parents. They say that they sometimes saw them when they brought flowers, but that they did not see them for two or three years – says Mirjana Tucarevic, PR "Zelenila".
