If you have followed the latest developments of Samsung's middle class, you know that the South Korean giant has introduced a handful of new Galaxy models of Class A and Many are only expected in the coming period. Incorrect numbers in the models were joined by a plethora of steamboats that quite threw cards. Today is the Galaxy J6 for us in 2018, recently introduced in the category of more affordable phones. Just enough to intimidate us …
Samsung is known not only for its excellent high-end solutions, but also for the middle-class phones that are in many ways ahead of the competition. Although it is forced to fully balance in the lower categories, Samsung is able to deliver phones that are convincing. Typically, they are characterized by excellent battery life, a comfortable, direction-driven design dictated by the higher-class models, but also something we really like – Super AMOLED displays!
J6 is made of a similar recipe. In fact, this phone has a "twin brother" among Samsung phones, which we recently introduced. It is the Galaxy A6, to which this device looks a lot, first of all, hardware. But A6 did not quite become famous on our test. What does this mean for a newcomer? It is worth keeping in mind that the J6 is a more affordable phone when it comes to price, so some of its features are always different. Before proceeding, we recommend you to read our Samsung Galaxy A6 review carefully because we will often watch this model.
Test: Samsung Galaxy A6
Test phone
Package in which Samsung shipped the Galaxy J6 is more than correct. In the turquoise paint box, we take the basic accessories for the device. By this we mean a SIM needle, a charger, a USB cable and a headset, which is not always part of the package. Maybe we would like to deliver a carrying case, but what is it? At first we are in a situation where it is clear that there is nothing fast – the cable is micro-USB type and the charger is simple.
The design of the phone amazes us. If you have read the A6 model test, you have seen that this unit has taken over the J7 / J5 design from last year. On the other hand, this J6 seems to have supported the design of the A5 / A7 model from last year. She loves us a lot. The phone has rounded edges and corners, is very comfortable in the hand, the back is very clear and transparent, and the thickness of the phone is 8.2 millimeters. Thanks to this and the small diagonal of the display (for display Infinity 18.5: 9.5) 5.6 inches, the Galaxy J6 is extremely extensive.
On the front, we encircle the curved glass in the 2.5D style. In addition, it must be said that it is one of those phones that use Infinity Display, but the frames are clearly visible, especially above and below the screen, but also on hips. It's a bit weird that Samsung calls these screens the same as the screens on their high-end models that "overflow" on their hips, but what's in it. Above the screen is a selfi camera with a flash, and a speaker to talk about. Below the screen we do not pin anything, which clearly suggests that the fingerprint reader has to go to the back.
Right here, we are pinching the fingerprint scanner, positioned in the center, a little higher and just below. To the right of the main camera is its flash. In addition to Samsung tags, in principle we do not identify anything significant on the back of the phone. It is clear that the plastic has been used to make the phone, but it shows very correctly, without indication of bad connections on the edges or crunches. Again, the competition offers metal phones or a combination of metal and plastic, and glass surfaces that look definitely better.
The hips and the edges are already a different story, in many respects. The Galaxy J6 has a speaker located on the right side of the phone, just above the touch screen. On the contrary, on the left side are the buttons to amplify the sound, "broken the ignition key", so to speak. In addition, there are also SIM slots, as well as a microSD slot. Yes, it's a Dual SIM phone, and the timing is somewhat strange because the SIM1 slot is separate, and SIM2 and microSD make the second big slot – they are separate, so you can use two SIM cards and one card microSD to expand the memory.
On the upper edge, nothing is pinched. The lower pack contains a micro-USB connector on which the phone is charged and communicates with computers. In addition, there is a 3.5mm headphone connector, which, fortunately, the South Korean giant has still not abandoned. In principle, that's all.
Hardware
The hardware is identical to the one we found on the Galaxy A6 phone, and it was created by supporting the hardware base. Galaxy J7 phones. Do you remember our words from the beginning of the text about mixing various models of series A and J? Yes, we just thought about that. However, the price of J6 is a little more favorable than that of A6, so we can always give the same level of quality to identical hardware, although we would prefer the faster chipset …
Galaxy J6 uses the Exynos 7870 Octa chipset from Samsung. Its eight-core processor with the Cortex-A53 core has a clock speed of up to 1.6 GHz. In addition, there are no particularly strong Mali-T830 graphics. Not too massively a combination, and certainly today in this category, you can find much more powerful phone hardware – say, Xiaomi will bring you the Snapdragon 636 in the Redmi Note 5 phone which is even cheaper, and d & rsquo; Other manufacturers Snapdragon 630 or 450 in different models. 19659083] samsung_j6_2018_cpuz_s.jpg "width =" 655 "height =" 326 “/>
The phone uses 3 GB of system memory and 32 GB of storage space. We do not know if a 4GB / 64GB version will be sold in our country, but we know that it exists worldwide. However, it would probably be a slightly lower choice considering the ratio of invested and received, so we would not be surprised that Samsung decided only for this variant that we received. The storage space can be expanded through the already mentioned separate microSD slot that accepts cards with a capacity of up to 256 GB.
We can repeat our general impression of the A6 test – the performance of the phone is correct, but this year has led to major changes in the categories and has brought a good number of fairly powerful hardware models. Of course, Samsug's phone has its trumps, and we can not look at the J6 phone in the same way as the A6. You can see the results obtained on the attached screenshots.
The Galaxy J6 comes with the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, as well as iteration of the Samsung Experience 9.0 user interface, which includes southern giant phones -Korean. In this way, Samsung unifies the experience on the phones that are on offer, and we really like the interface itself, probably because it looks a lot like an Android stack, with too much drag to access the main menu and other similar things. .jpg "title =" samsung_j6_2018_softver1_s.jpg "width =" 655 "height =" 327 “/>
Similar to the A6 model, we already have some problems at the start. It's true that it's a more accessible phone, but these are still functional flaws that are no longer on competing models. There is no notification light, no Always-On display (OK, this is even the smallest problem), and there is no light sensor automatic. In practice, this means that you have to manually check continuously if a notification has arrived, but also manually adjust the brightness of the screen. Unless you're used to it because you already have such a phone, it's a little boring.
The phone comes with the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, which follows the Samsung Experience 9.0 operating system. The optimization itself is pretty good and the system works pretty well, and the experience looks like an Android stock. However, with a lot of Samsun applications. Namely, this phone has a lot of Samsun applications, which can not be a problem, many are not limited in usability. In addition, many ask to register for a Samsung account before you can use them.
Anyway, you have many additional applications, some of which you will never need, but others that will be very useful. For example, there is a secure folder that improves the security of the phone, or Samsung Notes that allows you to create notes, a voice recorder with a clear function, a special email client, health apps, a file manager.
The phone has a fingerprint scanner on the back that works well. We welcome the possibility of direct unlocking via this sensor without the need for a pre-triggered display. It also supports facial recognition. In addition to the Samung applications mentioned, the phone comes with various Google applications, as well as a Microsoft package that includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint in mobile editions, as well as OneDrive and LinkedIn.
Mane? In general, the GPU is not very good, so some operations that heavily overload this part of the phone can slow down the phone. It is interesting that the phone does not overheat playing, which is attributed to a plastic case that is harder to transmit heat. It should be noted however that in everyday, non-demanding operations, you will not feel the physical limitations of your phone, at least not to the extent that you feel the hardware before the software optimizations that are really bad on some Android applications. Overall, and in terms of software, the phone gets a passing grade.
Impressions
Screen
The Samsung Galaxy J6 features an 18.5: 9 Infinity Display, now a regular event in all phone categories. The screen covers about 75% of the front panel, there is no Always-On display that remains reserved for the category above (or not because unlike other models in the Series A, the Galaxy A6 does not have this feature). Why do we say it?
Of course, because the phone comes with a superb Super AMOLED display. It is interesting that the screen is a bit more subjective compared to the A6 model, even though it may be frustrating. The wonderful screen has fantastic colors, a phenomenal depth of black, it's just a pleasure to watch it. And the most annoying that the phone does not have this automatic light sensor, it makes us manually adjust the brightness level of the menu or the shortcut to the notification panel.
As for the other elements, the resolution is a modest 1480 x 720 pixels, and a diagonal screen of 5.6 inches. All together, this gives a display density of 294 pixels per inch. The grip is excellent and the phone is very easy to use with one hand. In the end, be aware that there are many software options to customize the screen, as you can see in the images above.
Audio
The Galaxy J6 comes with a stranger detail on the speaker. Similar to other models of the new generation (A6, A8), and it has a speaker placed on the right side of the phone, above the ignition key instead of at the bottom of the phone. ;apparatus. This is the only speaker, that the headphone speaker is at the top of the screen Is it possible to point out that the phone comes in 3.5? Jack headphone -mm is more than good. In addition, it supports Dolby Atmos technology that is activated when you connect the headset. There are many options to adjust the sound through the equalizer, which can be adjusted by the profile, but also individually. In addition, the FM radio is supported.
Battery
We can only conclude that Samsung did a great job – again. Excellent autonomy is one of the trademarks of this company, and we do not doubt that a lot of the positive reviews in this sense should be sent to the account of a brilliant SAMOLED screen.
The battery has a capacity of 3000 mAh and manages to treat us again. After ten hours of playing YouTube video, about 33% of the battery remains at your disposal. We believe that you will be able to use this phone without problem for more than one day, even if you are a more demanding user. Finally, be aware that the battery is charging via a micro-USB port and does not support fast charging.
Camera
Up to now, we have used the comparison of Galaxy J6 and Galaxy A6 phones multiple times, so it may not be a surprise to do so in camera terms. Namely, the Galaxy J6 comes with a weaker A6 camera, and if this aspect of the work of the phone is important to you, we recommend you still pay these few thousand dinars. And the J6 uses a sensor on both sides, just like the A6, but instead of the 16-megapixel front and rear camera, the J6 uses a 13-megapixel and 8-megapixel front sensor. No, not everything is in the number of megapixels, but definitely with the A6 phone, the camera is one of the trumps, while here – although we can not to say that it is bad – the camera does not definitely come out of the competition
A light doubt is caused by the software, which is set differently from software on the A-series or on more powerful models. Although there seems to be a lot of options on the main screen, you understand that you activate the modes by navigating on the screen of one or the other side. As there are many, you may have to do it often. In addition, the HDR is defined as a special shooting mode, not as an option on the main screen that you can turn on or off easily, where it is the smallest mode of recording, let's say between Auto or Pro mode and HDR mode.
All comments
Regarding the general options, they are here, including various items that Samsung definitely uses on all devices. Say, here are the so-called. stickers, or stickers that you can put on your faces, though it's not clear to us if the collage of eyebrows and kidney beards is so popular that it represents such an important part of the software . Pro mod allows more options when shooting.
Total Pictures:
The main camera has a 13-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f / 1.9. It has its own LED flash, but also – a simple autofocus. Honestly, we are so used to the presence of phase-detection autofocus that we started to feel it for a moment. We are not sure that the key is exactly that, but the camera is slow in practice, it must be focused for a long time, the feeling in the work is not that the camera is flying. It often happens that for some reason you have to refocus it, and you do not expect it, so you will move the phone thinking that it's enough that you have manually manually focused the desired part of the scene, so the paint must be re-executed.
The photos are of average quality. The coloring is relatively good, and that's what makes the thing, but the detail, the sharpness, and the dynamic range are not at the level we expected from Samsung – a Samsung, no matter the price. Of course, the expectations are relatively realistic for us, it is clear that the budget phone can not have the same performance as the top model, but when you see what the competition can do with the camera, it is clear that the J6 is behind – first and foremost, those who come from Xiaomi and Motorola.
Shooting at night is a bit crazy. Namely, Samsung has set up a night shooting mode that takes a few things. Unlike automatic mode, which is subject to color dispersion and podcasting, and therefore we do not recommend using it, the night mode is able to capture a relatively decent night photography. However, in both cases, the price category will be expressed, the photos will have a lot of noise with less details, but the difference definitely exists. Here are some examples of still images taken in auto and night shooting mode.
Very important, it is that the night recording is done quickly. Unlike some competitors – for example, some Huawei phones – where there is a night mode, but the phone must hold it calmly and after 15 seconds and most often results in an image, everything is done in two to three seconds. However, the result is pretty good – a more unexpected one, certainly.
To be understood, the camera itself is not weak for its class, but we simply would not be described as a special asset. In addition, it should be noted that the competition has a better camera in this price class, almost all brands. Certainly from the head we can list at least two phones offered by several competitors and have a better camera.
The Selfi camera is, above average, the competition. The Galaxy J6 uses an 8 megapixel sensor, with an identical aperture of f / 1.9. There is also "auto-brightness", which simply scans in front of the phone before making a recording, but also a standard LED flash. This translates into three different lighting levels, as Samsung calls it. The autofocus mode is supported, which places your face in the foreground and darkens the background even if there is no other sensor.
It is also possible to record a "wide-angle" selfi, although the lens is not wide-angle, but the phone moves slightly to the left and right while shooting view. Why not? The result is definitely good and the software algorithm that combines the recordings works very well. There is also a plethora of stickers and watermarks that we have already talked about.

Conclusion
It has never been harder to compete in this category. There is strong pressure from Chinese manufacturers, the competition is extremely keen, and generally the quality of the device is such that it does not really need to go anymore. high on high-end models and generally on higher category models. It is unrealistic to talk about the number of these elements in markets facing more accessible models like ours. How does the Galaxy J6 handle this situation?
As always, phones in this category are the fruit of a compromise, and usually major brands are more inclined to do so, either because they are more inert or because they are not. they count their products sell the strength of their brand. Basically, here is a similar example. Samsung is the most recognizable name in the Android world, and the phone is just fine. This is not without fault, as it has a slightly anemic chipset, as well as a few missing elements, such as an automatic light sensor (a significant thing about the author of these lines) or an autofocus with detection of modern phase on the camera. jpg "title =" samsung_j6_11_s.jpg "width =" 655 "height =" 368 “/>
But, on the other hand, we have a very good rendering of a phone that we like a lot in this variant complete black, the battery is standard. quite compact. Finally, probably the strongest asset that no one can dig, especially not in this category, is the Super AMOLED screen which is normally excellent and with which nothing can be measured. Finally, the price is more affordable compared to A6, and subjectively, we prefer the phone. Therefore, this phone, although very similar to the A6 model, is very well rated. If you want an affordable Samsung phone, the Galaxy J6 is a very good choice.
–
– A compact phone with a nice socket
