Participants at the conference titled "One Step Further in the Treatment of Hepatitis C" agreed that a major change had been made in the treatment of hepatitis C (HCV) during the last year, thanks to innovative drugs allowing the complete cure of hepatitis C as a chronic infectious disease, become available for a number of patients.
Viral hepatitis represents a threat to global health and is one of the leading causes of death in the world. This is why the World Health Organization has supported the strategy for viral hepatitis 2016-2021. which calls for the elimination of viral hepatitis as a major threat to public health by 2030.
The global elimination of hepatitis C is not an easily achievable goal, and many countries have introduced the concept of micro-delegation of HCV, which involves treatment within specific patient groups . This practice has proven itself in the countries of the environment. Therefore, specialized bodies in Serbia suggest that microelination is applied to hemophilia and renal patients undergoing hemodialysis, under constant control within the health system and when this virus has been infected during the years of treatment.
The concept of HCV microelination in Serbia was supported by the Ministry of Health, which is actively working on the preparation of the national hepatitis strategy and program..
Speaking of past activities on the adoption of the concept of hepatitis C microelination in Serbia, doc. Dr. Ivana Milošević, Deputy Director of the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the CC of Serbia and member of the Ministry of Health Working Group on Viral Liver Diseases, expressed her satisfaction with the proposal and presented a joint proposal representatives of the committees of the professional republics and patient associations to consider the possibility of relaxing the criteria. the introduction of modern therapy in the micro-delegation of hepatitis C in groups of patients with hemophilia and dialysis.
Presentation of the annual report of the Serbian Institute of Public Health "Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut" on hepatitis, specialist in epidemiology prim. sir sc. med. Dr. Violeta Rakić said that in 2018, fewer cases of viral hepatitis C were reported compared with the previous year.
The Hepatitis C Patient Associations, as part of the "Hidden in the Public" campaign, have been working together over the last six months to raise public awareness of this disease.
