At the event "16 days of activism against violence against women", 85% of citizens believe that gender-based violence is common and that 80% of girls experience whistling in the street. while one in three thinks a short skirt justifies an attack on a woman.
– In addition, 29% of respondents believe that violence is a private matter, 63% say that a good woman is the one who listens to her husband and that she does not agree, while every young man on four and every tenth girl think a slap is not a violence. and recalled that this year, 26 women were killed in Serbia, while their number was over 350 in the last 10 years.
Do not scream to finish with the silence
He adds that violence is not only fighting for 16 days, but throughout the year.
– My message is that no one should suffer and shout must end silently. The state has created the conditions to fight, but that is not enough, the only way is to really fight against violence against women, regardless of the form of this violence, we are all together in this fight, we know that there is violence both physical and psychological. and that we do not allow girls and women to be trained in themselves, but to be an active part of society, "she said.
According to her, the fight for a life without violence lasts every day and it is the only way to create a healthy society.
Mihajlovic emphasized that gender equality and mutual respect and called everyone to react against violence at all times.

The deputy head of the EU delegation in Serbia, Mateja Norčić Stamčar, said that millions of women's and children's lives are interrupted by violence and that violence occurs most often at home, in a place that should be an oasis of security for all.
She pointed out that the most endangered women are women from minority groups, women with disabilities, women from villages and women of different sexual orientation.
– The equality of women and men is the basis of the value of the European Union since its creation. I hope that such events will raise public awareness and prohibit all violence, which is a flagrant violation of human rights – she said.
