The creator of the animated American series "SpongeBob SquarePants" (Bob Sponge) Stephen Hilenberg died at 58 years old.
Nikelodeon television said Hilenberg died Monday of Lu Gerig's disease, also known as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
Hilenberg, an expert in marine biology and drawing, designed, wrote, was a producer and director of an animated series that began in 1999 and includes hundreds of episodes based on Broadway movies and performances.
This drawing became a worldwide phenomenon, translated into 25 languages and watched on television in 170 countries.
