The Japanese government will ban its officials from using devices from Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE, which are considered a threat to security, Japanese media reported.
The agencies Jomiuri Shimbun and Djhiya indicate that this decision could be taken Monday.
Quoting anonymous government sources, Jomiuri Shimbun wrote that the United States had asked their allies to avoid the products of these two companies, fearing to be used to hacking attacks.
Japanese products using Huawei and ZTE components will also be listed as banned products.
Japan will not explicitly name companies to prevent Beijing's anger.
Government spokesman Yoshihide Suga declined to comment on media allegations, but said Japan "worked closely with the United States" on information technology issues.
Huawei suffered a hard blow by arresting its chief financial officer in Canada at the request of the United States.
Washington accuses Huawei and ZTE of violating US laws in their dealings with Iran.
