LONDON – Serena Williams and Andy Murray have emerged from the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Tournament after enthusiastic victories and news of their speculative couples, followed by two impressive victories in front of a crowd of spectators.

Fans' favorites stumbled into Bruno Soares and Nicole Melichar, the two seeded leaders, in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, Wednesday in the third round.

The duo – fondly known by fans as "Serandy" or "Murena" – was broken twice in the third set and trailed 4-0. They were unable to recover.

However, despite the premature exit, Williams and Murray said that after their defeat, they were happy to be able to play together.

"We had so much fun," said Williams, who will play the semifinal of the singles draw on Thursday. "We're not ready for everything to be over, but both of us are focused on our health, both of us, literally, one day at a time, seeing what happens from there.

"We had a good tournament and I think we played very well together for the first time.

Murray returned to competition last month after a hip operation and played in the doubles and mixed doubles events at home, Slam. He spoke enthusiastically about Williams and his competitive dynamism.

"I guess it was more a confirmation of something you would have expected from someone who won as much as she won," Murray said. "It was just the fact that she was so enthusiastic, so competitive, that's cool.I like that. Some people might think of it as a mixed doubles. We play it for fun and to have matches. "

"But a real kind of desire and desire to win, which I expected, but I did not know about it, I've never spent time on the field with her. while we were on the field, she really wanted to win and fill up, I like that. "

Their association and participation attracted more attention than usual for the mixed doubles draw, and their first game drew a thrilled crowd on Center Court. Williams' sister, Venus, was also in the draw, with Frances Tiafoe, as well as Murray's brother, Jamie, with Bethanie Mattek-Sands, among other notable players.

Williams and Murray had a friendly conversation – on and off the pitch – during the tournament and Williams teased Murray for all the questions he continued to receive about his health and his future plans with the sport. She said it was a "relief" that all the attention was on him.

She hoped, however, that support from British fans would continue for her during the singles draw. She will face Barbora Strycova with a final place in the match for the second match of the Center Court on Thursday.
