The scene of the accident covers approximately 1.5 miles.

According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, several people are trapped as a result of a pile-up on a freeway in Fort Worth, Texas.

At least 50 cars are involved, some stuck under others, a law enforcement source told ABC News.

The number of people trapped was not immediately clear.

Fort Worth Police blamed the I-35 crash on the weather – freezing rain caused slippery roads in the Fort Worth area.

The scene of the accident covers approximately 1.5 miles, reported ABC subsidiary Dallas WFAA.

“Expect long delays,” police warned in a tweet. “I-35 is backed up in both directions from I30 to 820.”

“If you are involved in a minor accident without injury, please exchange information and proceed safely. You can then notify your insurance when you arrive at your destination,” the police tweeted.

This is a developing story. Please come back for updates.
