Several PGA Tour golfers wear red in honor of Tiger Woods

BRADENTON, Fla – Several players showed up on Sunday dressed in red shirts and black pants in honor of Tiger Woods for the final round of the WGC-Workday Championship.

Tony Finau probably handled it best, wearing a red golf shirt, black pants and his inside out Nike hat – like Woods often happened at tournaments.

And at the Puerto Rico Championship, the opposite field event this week, the entire field team did it for Woods, who traditionally wore those colors on Sunday from the early stages of his professional career.

Woods’ mother Tida had suggested the dress code to him when he was a young pro, and he ended up following regardless of the circumstances.

Woods, 45, was involved in a serious car accident on Tuesday that saw him suffer from several injuries that required surgery. He is still hospitalized in California.

Among those who arrived in red were Jason Day, Tommy Fleetwood, Cameron Champ, Sebastian Munoz, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed. Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas wore a shade of red that looked more pink.

Day, Bryson DeChambeau and Matt Kuchar also used a Bridgestone golf ball with Tiger’s name stamped on the side.

Max Homa – who won the Genesis Invitational last Sunday and received the tournament trophy at the Riviera Country Club in Woods, said on social media Saturday night that he would honor Woods by trying to play his best; Homa did not have a red shirt, nor could he manage to get one with his various sponsorships. He was immediately scolded on social media.

Among his answers on Twitter:

“I am contractually obligated to wear clothing with certain logos that I cannot buy at a Dick’s / Pro / Roger Dunn / Walmart / ‘a store’ / etc. store Thanks for all the options you have!”

And later:

“I mean that without hyperbole, it’s the strangest thing I’ve ever experienced on Twitter lol. I love Tiger more than you guys. Promise. Listen to an interview from last week. Red and Black Tomorrow doesn’t prove it. A life-long attempt to imitate his approach to the game does. ”
