Severe thunderstorm warning issued across south central Pennsylvania, according to NWS

A severe thunderstorm with wind gusts of up to 60 mph is moving through south-central Pennsylvania, according to the National Weather Service.

Parts of York, Cumberland, Franklin and Adams counties are all under a severe thunderstorm warning beginning at 4:55 PM. The warning is in effect until 6:15 PM.

The line of severe storms was found stretching from Blosesrville to near Shippensburg, to near Fountainhead-Orchard Hills, the NWS said. It travels at 50 mph.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph were reported in the storm, according to the NWS. Damage to trees, roofs and siding is expected.

Areas that could be affected include Harrisburg, Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Chambersburg, Lower Allen Township, Hanover, Weigelstown, Waynesboro, Gettysburg, New Cumberland, Parkville, Shippensburg, Lemoyne, Greencastle, Hampton, Guilford, Shiloh and Plainfield, in the NWS told me.

The NWS suggests moving to an indoor room or the lowest level of your building.

Five counties in central Pennsylvania will remain under heavy storm watch until 11 p.m., including Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Schuylkill and York.
