Severino stopped, unlikely for the opening day

TAMPA, Florida – The New York Yankees' starting pitcher, Luis Severino, was arrested for two weeks after an MRI showed that he had rotator cuff inflammation in his shoulder right, said Tuesday coach Aaron Boone.

Boone added that it was "very unlikely" that Severino was ready in time to start the day of opening.

Severino was late on his scheduled appearance Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves because of a discomfort in his right shoulder.

The beginning would have been Severino's first spring training.

A few minutes before the match, the right-hander was seen following his normal warm-up routine in the outfield. After the national anthem and a seven-minute delay, left-handed pitcher Stephen Tarpley jogged on the field with the rest of the starting Yankees, replacing Severino and taking the last minute of the race.

Severino will be treated with anti-inflammatories and will resume his throwing program in two weeks.

Ace of the Yankees pitcher team, Severino scored 19-8 with a points average at 3.39 last season. Earlier this spring, he signed a $ 40 million four-year contract extension.

Center field player Aaron Hicks, who signed a $ 70 million extension last week for a seven-year term, was not on the pre-game list as he continues to recover from 39, a back injury. Hicks has not played since last Friday.

Boone had previously speculated that Hicks would return for Tuesday's game.
