San Francisco residents should prepare for tougher coronavirus restrictions, the mayor of London Breed said on Tuesday.
The warning coincided with reports that Breed had dined at upscale French Laundry restaurant in Napa County last month, according to reports.
Breed said the increase in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks could lead to stricter restrictions in San Francisco on gatherings, reduced capacity in public spaces and mandatory post-travel quarantines, FOX 2 reported. from the bay area.
“We’ve been worried for months, but now it’s real,” Breed said. “The truth is we’re going to have to take more restrictive measures and it pains me to say that.”

Breed’s warning came after she joined seven other people at the Napa Valley restaurant on November 7 to celebrate the 60th birthday of socialite Gorretti Lo Lui, a spokesperson for the mayor told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Their dining room was in a partially closed room with a ceiling and chandelier – much like Governor Gavin Newsom’s widely criticized birthday dinner at the restaurant a day earlier, according to reports.
Breed said on Tuesday that a ban on outdoor dining was under consideration, with the number of COVID-19 cases tripling in the past three weeks in the city, FOX 2 reported. New restrictions could be announced as early as Wednesday, according to Dr Grant Colfax, the city’s director of public health.
“We don’t expect this to stabilize anytime soon,” Colfax said at a press conference which Breed also attended. “We have more viruses circulating than ever before.”
While Breed’s dining experience didn’t technically violate Napa County rules at the time, they reportedly did the same in his own town. Just three days after dining at this upscale establishment, the mayor banned all dining inside San Francisco and called for a reduction in capacity at gyms and cinemas, the station reported.

The restaurant was in the orange level when she dined there, while San Francisco was in the least restrictive yellow level at the time. On Saturday, she said the city had been placed on California’s “purple level” due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
As of the end of Tuesday, San Francisco had reported more than 15,639 total cases and at least 160 deaths, according to local health officials. Hospitalizations in the city have doubled in the past 10 days.
Breed’s latest dining experience placed her among a group of other California officials caught flouting the coronavirus rules.
