Shane Gillis, a new cast member of "Saturday Night Live," offered to apologize to anyone who was offended by his use of an Asian insult in an old comedy.

Gillis, whose hiring was announced this week alongside Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang, was shot on Thursday after resurfacing a video posted on a YouTube channel called "The Secret Podcast of Matt and Shane". showed using the link.

"The best Chinatown nut," Gillis told comedian Matt McCusker in a segment of YouTube's longer video, which has since been removed. "Let the scoundrels live there.

Many have asked Gillis to be fired even before he goes on the airwaves of NBC.

The comedian subsequently offered to apologize to anyone who was offended by his use of this insult, without saying that he was sorry for the gesture.

"I am a comedian who pushes the limits," he wrote in the Notes application message. "I miss sometimes. If you go through my 10 years of comedy, most of the time, bad, you will find a lot of bad moves. I am happy to apologize to anyone who is offended by all that I have said.

"My intention is to not hurt anyone, but I try to be the best comedian I can be and this sometimes involves risks."

NBC did not immediately postpone Page Six's request for comment.
