Shaquille O’Neal calls Sixers star Ben Simmons

Philadelphia has been dealing with the buzz and commercial rumors of Ben Simmons since the James Harden saga ahead of his possible trade with the Brooklyn Nets last season.

This offseason, the team’s relationship with Simmons has deteriorated to the point that each team is looking for a trade with Philly. Simmons also threatens to sit outside of training camp while he waits for the signal to catch the next flight out of town.

NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley had a few words to say about the situation and let their opinions soar on The Big Podcast with Shaq on Thursday. They weren’t exactly singing the praises of Simmons.

“Ben Simmons, you’re not that good,” O’Neal said flatly.

O’Neal said he was in Game 6 against the Atlanta Hawks when Simmons let an open shot go for a pass, leading to just one run at the free throw line.

“That man was terrified over there,” O’Neal said. “Not terrified of playing, but terrified of being fouled and missing free throws. Forget it all.

Barkley said he was “disappointed” with the forward, after failing to develop a competitive vault shot.

“When you give someone $ 200 million to dribble a stupid basketball, and the only thing you asked of them was to be better as a player, and their first response is, ‘I don’t wanna play anymore here, “” Barkley said. “It disappoints me as a player, it disappoints me as a fan.”

In 275 career NBA regular season games, Simmons attempted 34 three-pointers and hit just five. He’s a career 14.7% three-point shooter, hitting all of his career shots from beyond the arc over the past two seasons. For comparison, he sank nearly 1,800 shots from inside the line, at a rate of 56.4%.
