The debate will go on forever: LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan. NBA fans, players and analysts have debated it for years, comparing stats, rings, impact, how the game has changed and more.

Professional Basketball Hall of Fame member Shaquille O’Neal caught up with “All Things Covered” to give his thoughts on the GOAT conversation and revealed where he feels the gap between the two players.

While some don’t pay attention to the conversation, O’Neal says he thinks James cares about other people’s opinions.

“I know LeBron and I know he thinks what people think,” said the former Laker.

Shaq admitted that “we are looking at the statistics” and broke down the difference between the two players in numbers.

“He’s already passed Kobe and Jordan in points… he’s going to crawl over Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) as well. I think he’s looking to pass Kareem,” Shaq said.

As for the championships, James has four – he just landed his fourth ring last season with the Lakers – while Bryant finished with five and Jordan with six.

“I think LeBron is looking to match Kobe and match Jordan with championships,” Shaq said. “If he has equaled Mike, I think people will probably lean a bit more into LeBron being the best player in the world.”

While at the moment Shaq appears to be leaning toward MJ over James, he hasn’t negated the possibility of him turning around, saying that if James takes out Abdul-Jabar on points and Jordan on rings, “the conversation will probably change. “

James, 36, has been in the league since 2003 and shows no signs of leaving the league anytime soon.
