Shares to open with modest gains, but miners jump after Berkshire buy Barrick (NYSE: GOLD)

S&P 500 futures contracts are up 0.3%, DJIA 0.2%and Nasdaq 100 0.6% just after 7 a.m. ET. Europe is in advance 0.2% at noon.

Sectors to watch today will be gold miners after Berkshire Hathaway revealed a $ 500 million position in Barrick Gold on Friday (NYSE: OR) to June 30. Barrick is up 8% pre-launch and the VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSEARCA: GDX) is up 3.1%.

Caught as badly on this rally as anyone on the street, David Kostin and the Goldman Sachs team this morning are catching up, dropping their year-end S&P 500 target to 3600 from 3000. The S&P closed at 3373 Friday.
