Shawn King opened up about his final moments with late husband Larry King.

“We were able to FaceTime in the hospital and it was difficult for him to speak, but the only message he wanted to make sure I heard was, ‘I love you, take care of the boys’,” she told Entertainment Tonight of the famous broadcaster’s last moments.

Shawn, 61, and Larry shared two sons together, Chance, 21, and Cannon, 20. He is also survived by his eldest son, Larry King, Jr., 59, from his marriage to Annette Kaye.

Larry died Saturday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 87 years old.

Although Larry’s sixth wife, Julia Alexander, told the Post he died of coronavirus, which he contracted in December, Shawn said it was not his actual cause of death.

“It was an infection, it was sepsis,” she told the store. “Well, he was finally ready to go, I’ll tell you. You know he never wanted to go but his sweet little body was just right, he had just been hit so many times with so many things and once we heard the word COVID all of our hearts sank. But he beat him, you know, he beat him, but it took its toll and then the unrelated infection was what finally got him, but boy, he wasn’t going to fall easily.

Shawn, who was in the midst of a divorce proceeding from the legendary CNN host, said she never thought they would end up finalizing their separation due to their partnership.

“Larry and I, you know, we never finalized our divorce,” she noted. “In my heart, I didn’t think this was really going to happen and it never happened. We were partners in every sense of the word, in business, and finally in our family, then in business. … You know, family is the most important thing, and God.

The family put Larry to rest this week and honored him in the most appropriate way possible – wearing his signature accessory.

“All of us, it was just family, we wore Larry’s suspenders, all of us,” she said. “And she was a beautiful, loving… just perfect, just perfect. It was family. There was no showbiz, no, none of that.

“Death is maybe the great equalizer, I think,” she continued. “You know when you experience it with people that we really, really love, all the other nonsense and nonsense that might be surrounding it just goes away and the family comes closer. And that’s what happened. You know, it was beautiful.
