Shawn Michaels didn’t originally think The Undertaker would have longevity with Deadman Gimmick

Shawn Michaels did an interview with CBS Sports about his friendship with The Undertaker ahead of Taker’s “Final Farewell” at Sunday’s Survivor series pay-per-view event.

Over the years, Taker has suffered various gadgets. Of course, he started out as the character of the dead man before moving on to a darker version and becoming the American Badass and then returning to the character of the dead man. His last match saw him merging the characters into one for a Boneyard Match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 earlier this year.

According to Michaels, he didn’t originally think the character would last.

“He’s dead. He’s not selling. From a locker room perspective, that maybe looked like a limited character. It looked like he would be very cool, but it would be short lived. Which, of course, 30 years later, that’s pretty funny if you ask me. But it testifies to Mark’s ability. And then seeing him, he was a character hard not to think, ‘What a great idea.’ “

HBK also opened up about Taker’s longevity, whether he thinks Taker is actually retired, and more. Check out the full interview here.
