Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp takes a hands-on approach to rebuilding the squad.

Chris Spielman, who joined the Lions front office in December, told 97.1 The Ticket this morning that Hamp was involved in Lions meetings as they discuss improving their staff.

“[Hamp] was involved in being in all these staff meetings. She attended two days of offensive free agency meetings and defensive free agency meetings, ā€¯Spielman said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

The extent to which owners are involved with staff varies from team to team, with some taking the Jerry Jones approach and naming themselves as GM, while others not finding out who the GM signs or write until the general public knows it. Hamp, who is entering his first offseason as primary owner after taking over his mother’s team, is not Jerry Jones. But she seems to be on the more involved side.
