Jaclyn Moore, screenwriter and co-host of Netflix’s “Dear White People,” says she is breaking up with the streaming service over alleged transphobic jokes Dave Chappelle made in his latest comedy special.
Moore, who identifies as a trans woman, took to Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday night to explain her position.
“After the Chappelle special, I can’t do this anymore. I won’t work for @netflix anymore as long as they continue to promote and enjoy dangerous transphobic content,” she wrote on Instagram.
Her later tweeted, “I love so many people I worked with at Netflix. Brilliant people and executives who collaborated and fought for important art…. But I was thrown against the walls because” I didn’t am not a “real woman.” I was thrown bottles of beer. So @netflix, I’m done. “

Moore spoke to Variety on Friday and explained in detail why Chappelle’s comments are very problematic and dangerous in her opinion.
“I was thrown bottles of beer. I was thrown against a wall for using a women’s bathroom. I would just say it’s ironic that for someone who has strayed from a TV show because he felt the joke posts lost, he doesn’t see what the joke posts are doing to people, “she explained. “He talks about our hurt feelings. My feelings are fine, but being thrown against a wall hurts or worries me at night if I can go home safe and sound. It’s not theoretical.”

Moore said she had “no desire” to try to cancel Chappelle. Instead, she put the blame on Netflix. “He should do whatever he wants but I’ll tell Netflix, it’s not like this is a special live. They saw that and was like, ‘Yeah, that looks fine. the low.’ The truth is it is not, “she said. “It’s dangerous and it has repercussions for physical violence in the real world.”

The producer added that she believed in freedom of expression and did not try to deny anyone the right to comment, but also had “freedom of expression to say that the word of someone is bothering me, and I don’t want to work with a company that promotes this speech. It’s dangerous language.
“Dear White People” aired its fourth and final season in September and Moore currently has a few projects in development but “won’t bring anything to Netflix at this time.”

Thursday night, Chappelle scoffed at all efforts to get it and “The Closer” was canceled. The 48-year-old performer took to the stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles for the screening of his documentary.

“If that’s the subject of the cancellation, I love it,” Chappelle said to boos and screams from fans in attendance, according to the deadline. He added, “I don’t know what to tell you except I’m a bad mother — uh.”
Netflix and a representative for Chappelle did not immediately return Fox News’ request for comment.
