Florida MPs shot and killed a carjacking suspect who had shot a sheriff's sergeant's head.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said at a press conference that the shooting had occurred Thursday afternoon near DeLand as a result of a lawsuit across the county. .

Authorities say the unidentified suspect stole a woman's van under the threat of a revolver in Deltona. Chitwood says the man brandished a weapon as MPs pursued him and tried to escape on foot after destroying the truck's tires with stunt bats.

A group of deputies finally surrounded the man. Chitwood says Sgt. Tommy Dane and four other members exchanged shots with him. Dane was shaved and the suspect was shot dead several times.

The police did not release the deputies' errands or the car hijacking suspect.

Chitwood says that Dane was awake and alert after the shooting.
