Sheriff Latham holds press conference regarding New Harmony shooting

POSEY CO., Ind. (WFIE) – Sheriff Tom Latham held a press conference regarding the Posey County MP who was gunned down on Saturday night in New Harmony.

The press conference began at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Sheriff Latham said Paul Wiltshire, 70, was the suspect involved in the shooting. Latham also says the deputy who was shot was Deputy Hicks and is currently in intensive care in critical condition.

He says Wiltshire worked for the town of New Harmony as a city commissioner years ago. The sheriff also said Wiltshire was a reserve MP in County Posey over 16 years ago.

The last time a shooting involving an officer occurred in the county was in 1994.

The sheriff’s office has asked the PSI to investigate the matter and any questions can be directed to them.

Latham also called on the community to pray for MP Bryan Hicks as well as his family.
