Sheriff NC: A man confessed to killing a teenage girl

MONROE, N.C. (AP) – MPs from North Carolina said a man had gone to a sheriff's office and confessed to killing his 15-year-old daughter.

The Union County Sheriff's Office press release says that 32-year-old Joshua Lee Burgess walked into the lobby and told dispatches on Sunday morning that he was there to surrender for the murder of his teenage daughter . He is charged with first degree murder.

The sheriff's office said Burgess provided investigators with detailed information about Zaria Burgess's death and the location of her body.

Sheriff spokesman Tony Underwood said the detectives then found the girl's body at home.

The media reports that Zaria Burgess visited her father this weekend but normally stayed with her mother.

The WSOC reports that the suspect appeared in court on Monday. Officials say that he strangled his daughter and slit his throat.
